Around 1879, "The Captain" (or "Cap, " as Henry was called after the Civil War), began producing Barbour corn drills. As well as castings for Norris Implement Works. Later he diversified into a line of school desks of the "fashion" style.

Each desk had an ornate cast iron frame, a folding wooden seat in front, and at the rear, a wooden desktop. A groove held pencils and an inkwell nestled into a recessed area. When these desks were lined up in a classroom.
