1885 ANTIQUE GERMAN LIEBIG COMPANY CHROMO LITHOGRAPH TRADE CARD VERY RARE. DESCRIPTION: Offered to you is this very rare 19th century 1885 antique German Liebig Company Beef Extract chromo lithograph trade card. Liebig's cards are probably the most collected trade cards out there with these early issues fetching very high numbers. Size: 4 ½" x 2 ¾". Scarce and highly collectable item.

The famous German chemist Justus von Liebig was the inventor of the meat extraction process, which allowed to concentrate and preserve the essential nutrients and flavors of beef in the form of paste or boullion cubes. An English firm, who owned large cattle farms in South America, decided to start the production of the meat extract in 1850 and named it after its inventor.
